Stuttgart 21 rail project

The Stuttgart 21 project involves the remodeling of the rail hub in the German city of Stuttgart and its integration in the new Stuttgart-Ulm high-speed rail link. The linchpin of the project is the transformation of Stuttgart Central Station into an underground through station. The new station involves the relocation of 33 km of approach lines to tunnels below the city. The project also includes the construction of a new airport station and the rerouting of S-Bahn (rapid-transit) lines to serve the new Rosenstein quarter.

Under its safety consultancy mandate, Gruner AG has developed various safety and rescue concepts for the construction and operation phases as well as smoke extraction solutions for the tunnel sections. It is advising Deutsche Bahn AG's development company on all safety issues and, as part of its commission, is participating in various internal and external working groups.
